Del Mar snubs candidates' forum as per BOPK rules

CEBU, Philippines - Following the rules of the Bando Osmeña-Pundok Kauswagan congressional candidate for Cebu City North District Marguerite “Cutie” del Mar did not attend the congressional candidates’ forum in The University of the Philippines Visayas Campus Cebu yesterday afternoon.

The candidates who attended the said forum were Lahug Cebu City Lahug barangay captain Mary Ann delos Santos, Lt. Ashley Acedillo, and former NBI-7 director lawyer Florencio Villarin.

In her letter read by Mary Catherine Alvarez, moderator and faculty of UPVCC Social Sciences Division, Del Mar explained that the BOPK refrained their running candidates from joining and attending forums with the opponent candidates.

The candidates were given chances to present their platforms to the UP students for five minutes.

Acedillo said that the main issue of the country is the lack of transparency and accountability of the government process. He then challenged the entire government to be more creative and implement projects that could lead to improvement locally and nationally.

Delos Santos highlighted the raising the standards of governance by supporting small and big businesses, taking keen solution to improve employment rate, education and livelihood.

Considering corruption as the main reason for poverty and crime, Villarin proposed imposing moral character on young children at home, school and church. He believes most of the government leaders in our country have no morality which leads them to be corrupt.

Meanwhile, Comelec also did a brief voter’s education for the students represented by Lionel Marco Castillano, Comelec provincial election supervisor. — Antoniette Parce/BRP    (FREEMAN NEWS)
