Warrant vs. Dumpit returned to court
CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Police Office director Sr. Supt. Patrocinio Comendador said he already returned his copy of the warrant of arrest against SPO1 Adonis Dumpit to the court yesterday after it expired 10 days after its issuance.
He said that with the expiration of the warrant of arrest against Dumpit yesterday, he returned it to Regional Trial Court 7th Judicial Branch while waiting for the issuance of the Alias Warrant of Arrest.
Before returning the copy, Comendador said the CCPO served for the last time the warrant against Dumpit in his house in barangay Villagonzalo, but the policeman was not there.
Yesterday morning, Comendador received from the Ombudsman-Visayas the copy of the motion directing officials of the Philippine National Police “to inform the court” in writing within five days of the action the police have taken relative to the warrant against Dumpit on the murder charges filed against him.
In the urgent ex-parte motion file by prosecution lawyer Alfred Oguis, Police Regional Office-7 director Lani-O Nerez, Regional Security Agencies Supervisory Unit chief, Supt. Rex Derilo, and Warrant and Subpoena Section chief, Insp. Rica Aying, were also directed to report on their recent operations to capture Dumpit and answer why he still remains at large.
The four policemen, with Derilo as Dumpit’s immediate superior, were given copies of the warrant of arrest against Dumpit.
The CCPO director has given his side regarding Dumpit’s status of being at large, saying that Dumpit will surrender soon as the latter “cannot afford to be a fugitive forever”.
“Once mo-expire na sad ang iyang leave, ma-AWOL (Absence Without Official Leave) siya, and eventually mawala sa serbisyo. Mas maayo ug atubangon niya iyang problema,” Comendador said.
While Dumpit did not attend the hearing, Oguis said the officials who were furnished with copies of the warrant have failed to inform the court of the status of its service.
