Raps filed vs suspects in slay of village chief

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Provincial Police Office already filed a case against two of five people implicated in the killing last week of the barangay captain of Monteverde in Samboan town.

Senior Supt. Erson Digal, director of the CPPO, confirmed that they already filed a case for murder against suspects Norberto and Cristituta Ferrer.

This after Agustina Deniega, aunt of the victim, acted as witness to the crime and in fact mentioned of three other perpetrators labeled by the police, as of this writing, as “John Does.”

The relationship of the two suspects, on whether they are a couple or relatives, wasn’t however determined.

Further, Agustina alleged that P10,000 cash which belonged to the victim was lost right after the perpetration of the crime.

Earlier, the CPPO said that it is looking into three motives which could have fueled the incident. These are land dispute, robbery, and personal grudge. However, it recently established that land dispute outweighed the other angles.

Digal added that the Cebu Intelligence Detection Group-7 also coordinated with them to facilitate speedy investigation on the crime. Barangay Monteverde chairman Cirilo Deniega, 38, sustained fatal gunshot wounds to his head and to his back.

Police initial investigation revealed that Deniega went out of his house after he saw unidentified men set the gate on fire.

But he was shot once in the head and twice hitting him in the back, killing him on the spot.

Recovered from the crime scene were two pieces of empty shells of a caliber .45 pistol, a plastic bottle containing kerosene, a lighter and a flashlight. — Gabriel C. Bonjoc/MEEV   (FREEMAN NEWS)
