Council to discuss P272 million supplemental budget today
CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Council will convene today to discuss the proposed Supplemental Budget No. 2 of the city amounting to P272.5 million.
Councilor Augustus Pe Jr., chairman of the Committee on Public Order and Safety, said part of the proposed supplemental budget will be spent to give additional honoraria to tanods, day-care teachers, Lupong Tagapamayapa and barangay health workers.
Pe explained that the city will also allocate P6 million for the burial assistance program for the city residents.
The approval of the supplemental budget that includes the P25.6 million for tanods, health workers and day-care teachers will ensure that the giving of additional honorarium to them will continue.
Pe explained that each of the 1,600 tanods in the city will be given a P2,000 increase in their monthly honoraria, while P1,000 will be given to each of the day-care teachers, barangay health workers and Lupon members.
“Angay na g’yod nga dili magligoy-ligoy ang mga tanod pag-abag sa kapolisan nga mapatunhay ang kalinaw sa ilang dapit kay dagko na sila og honorarium,” Pe said.
The city also allocate P7 million for the honorarium increase of the nutrition scholars in all city barangays where each of them will receive additional P1,000 every month on top of their existing honoraria.
Another P7 million was also appropriated for the purchase of supplies and materials for a sanitation deodorizer for sanitary landfills in order to minimize the foul odor coming from the city’s garbage dumpsite.
At present, the foul odor from the landfill in barangay Inayawan can be detected even from a few kilometers away.
“Ang baho sa mga basura sa Inayawan landfill maabot gani sa amo diri barangay Basak-Pardo,” said Nicolas Silot, a blind massage attendant.
South Road Properties manager Nagiel Bañacia said the foul odor will be stopped only if the personnel in charge will properly cover the garbage with filling materials. — Rene U. Borromeo/BRP (FREEMAN NEWS)
