CEBU, Philippines - A man landed at the hospital after shot by his neighbor last Thursday in Sitio Nangka, Barangay Tisa, Cebu City.
Bernardino Del Corro, 33, sustained gunshot wounded in the left chest and right shoulder after his neighbor, identified as certain Cencio Medrano, shot him twice.
The victim alleged that while he was walking along the road leading towards his residence past 9 p.m., he passed by the house of the suspect and tapped the fence made of galvanized iron sheet.
When he was allegedly about to enter his house, which was located beside the house of the suspect, the latter called his name and fired at him twice, hitting him to the left chest and right shoulder.
The victim was taken by his brother Celso Del Corro to Punta Princesa Police Station where they sought assistance. The police then called the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation who took the victim to the hospital for treatment.
Punta Princesa police immediately conducted a hot pursuit operation but failed to arrest the suspect who was believed to have gone into hiding already.
PO3 Geoffrey Gutual of Cebu City Police Office-Homicide Section said the suspect thought that the drunken victim was looking for a fight when he tapped the fence.
Meanwhile, a 66-year-old woman was shot while watching television at 9:30 p.m. last Friday in Danao City.
The Danao City Police Office reported that Victoria Prieto was inside her daughter’s house when a man from outside suddenly shot her to the head.
It was later learned that the suspect was the victim’s neighbor, Efren Regalla 44, who was arrested by the responding policemen not far from the crime scene.
Regalla, a native of Romblon, is staying in the compound of his employer Pablito Relano, who later turned over a magnum 22 caliber revolver, which was believed to have been used in carrying the crime, and an empty shell of the same firearm to the police.
The victim was rushed to Danao District Hospital and was later transferred to a hospital in Cebu City. — Niña G. Sumacot and Antoniette Parce/WAB (FREEMAN NEWS)
