WHY DUMPIT REMAINS AT LARGE: Nerez says CCPO, RSAGSU will have to explain in court

CEBU, Philippines - Police Regional Office-7 director Lani-o Nerez yesterday said that the director of the Cebu City Police Office and the chief of the Regional Security Agency Guards and Supervisory Unit, in which controversial policeman, SPO1 Adonis Dumpit is presently assigned, will be asked to explain in court why the latter is still at large until now.

In an interview over DySS, Nerez revealed that CCPO director Patrocinio Comendador, and Dumpit’s head, Supt. Rex Derilo will be made to explain in a motion that will soon to be filed by prosecution lawyer Alfred Oguis over their alleged failure to turn over Dumpit or ask him to voluntarily surrender himself after the issuance of a warrant of arrest against the latter for allegedly shooting to death a robbery suspect five years ago.

In earlier interview, Comendador said that the CCPO has no longer jurisdiction over Dumpit as he is already assigned in another unit but they are also hunting him down after they were given a copy of the arrest warrant.

For his part, Derilo denied having contact with the controversial police officer, saying the last time he was able to talk to him was the day before the warrant was issued and never had the chance to talk to him again as his cell phone could no longer be reached. He added it is not true that they are not exerting effort to locate Dumpit.

Yesterday, Nerez assured Dumpit of his safety as he appealed to him to voluntarily give up himself to the proper authorities.

Meanwhile, the chiefs of police from different towns and component cities in the province were also ordered to arrest the controversial policeman whenever they see him.

Cebu Provincial Police Office director Erson Digal said that he already disseminated the information to the different police stations in the province and told them what is stipulated in the constitution and arrest Dumpit.

Regional Trial Court judge Ester Veloso had issued a warrant of arrest for murder against Dumpit for the death of suspected robber Ron-ron Go in 2004. — Johanna T. Natavio/WAB   (FREEMAN NEWS)
