Power supply shortage
CEBU, Philippines - The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines announced a power supply shortage of approximately 113 megawatts yesterday due to maintenance of major power plants in the Visayas.
Yesterday’s available capacity was only 1084 megawatts while the peak load has reached 1197 giving a gross reserve of negative (-) 113.
Belinda Canlas, regional corporate communications officer of NGCP-Visayas, said that Cebu and rest of the Visayas have been dependent on imported power from Luzon for the past few months.
“However, Luzon is having reserve problems for the past few days so it is unable to extend power supply to the Visayas,” Canlas said.
NGCP advised that power interruptions may be experienced and the public is encouraged to reduce power consumption especially during peak hours to save energy. — Jessica Ann R. Pareja/LPM (FREEMAN NEWS)
