Police say no word yet from Dumpit; assure cop's arrest

CEBU, Philippines - Even his colleagues in the police force appear to be having a difficult time locating controversial policeman Adonis Dumpit who is facing a standing warrant of arrest for the death of suspected robber Ronron Go.

Both City Police Director Patrocinio Comendador and Supt. Rex Derilo, chief of the Regional Security Agencies and Guards Supervisory Unit, said that as of yesterday, Dumpit has not sent them “surrender feelers.”

Comendador used to be Dumpit’s immediate superior while Derilo is his current immediate superior.

“Wala pa’y feelers but I know he’s willing to face the legal procedure,” Comendador told reporters yesterday. He said they are hoping that Dumpit would eventually communicate with them.

He, however, clarified that CCPO can place Dumpit under arrest because they also hold a copy of the warrant issued by the court.

Comendador said that if he were to decide, he would have Dumpit placed under the custody of the city police. He said Dumpit might be apprehensive of his safety at the city jail, considering that he was instrumental in the arrest of several suspected criminals.

Dumpit is accused of killing Go last December 14, 2004. Go’s family insists the deceased was a victim of a mistaken identity.

Go’s mother, Janeth Badana, who is under the impression that Comendador is close to Dumpit, even said the city police chief allegedly did not want to see her when she went to his office the other day to seek for assistance. She left the city police office in tears.

Comendador explained that Badana was merely made to wait, as he needed to sign documents urgently, but Badana reportedly left. He said he will face Badana once she visits him again and assured that CCPO is also doing its best to locate Dumpit.

Police Regional Office Director Lani-O Nerez also said he already instructed Derilo to locate the controversial policeman. — Niña G. Sumacot/JMO   (FREEMAN NEWS)
