Jackson choreographer shows interest in inmates
CEBU, Philippines - A choreographer of the late King of Pop Michael Jackson plans to organize a big event involving the dancing inmates of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center.
The inmates shot to world fame when a video of them dancing Jackson’s song “Thriller” was uploaded on video sharing website Youtube and became a hit.
Travis Payne, Jackson’s choreographer, visited Governor Gwendolyn Garcia yesterday morning to express his interest to work with the inmates.
The inmates were even featured in the 404-page Official Michael Opus.
The inmates reportedly have four pictures in the book showing them dancing “Thriller.”
Capitol Consultant Byron Garcia is excited about this latest development saying that the efforts of the inmates and all of his staff at the CPDRC have paid off.
The book states: “Michael’s fans are as diverse as the population of Earth, from Israeli teenagers to Filipino prison inmates to American soccer mums.”
Byron introduced the dancing activity to the inmates of the provincial jail as a means to get them busy during their spare time and to help promote discipline.
At first the program met some resistance, but eventually it became a big hit.
Several tourists, both local and foreign, now visit the jail to watch the inmates perform. — Jose P. Sollano/NLQ (FREEMAN NEWS)
