CEBU, Philippines - The officials of Barangay Sawang Calero are requesting the Cebu City Government to help them provide their newly-constructed health center with a doctor, dentist, nurses, widwife and other medical personnel.
Barangay captain Benjamin Zabate said their newly-finished barangay health center can only start operation upon the assignment of competent medical personnel.
According to Zabate, his constituents are clamoring for the center’s operation and to make its services accessible to them.
Zabate, an ally of Mayor Tomas Osmeña, explained that “one of the important service that caters to the needs of the barangay constituents is health services” that prompted him to ask assistance from the city.
During the regular session of the Cebu City Council last Wednesday, council members referred the matter to the Committee on Health for further study and recommendation whether to approve or deny the request.
Osmeña is not against the assignment of medical personnel to the barangay health center, including the giving of stocks of the needed drugs and medicines for the residents’ needs.
The mayor is so much concerned with the health needs of the city constituents. In fact, he has appropriated P4 million to finance the repair of a multi-purpose building that housed the day care center and health facility of Barangay Guadalupe.
Osmeña’s plan is to improve the performance of the barangay health centers to lessen the number of patients at the already crowded Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) by making the avail of the services of their barangay health personnel. — Rene U. Borromeo/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
