CEBU, Philippines - Barangay tanods of Tejero the other night arrested two suspected gang members after a commotion in front of the Sinulog carnival along General Maxilom Ave. and S. Osmeña Blvd.
Those arrested were Russel Rosales, 21, a resident of Ponce Compound and a 17-year-old minor, and resident of sitio Negative, Carreta, Cebu City.
Barangay tanods confiscated an improvised shotgun and a live shotgun round from Rosales.
Gerardo Padios, chief tanod of barangay Tejero, said his men were conducting routine monitoring along the area of Sinulog carnival when they noticed a commotion between two groups of bystanders and heard a gunshot.
Padios said they responded to the trouble between Rosales and the unknown group of bystanders and confiscated the improvised shotgun.
Rosales admitted owning the improvised shotgun and said they only retaliated after they were first attacked by the other group which he claimed were members of the Alpha Kappa Rho fraternity.
“Pagbunot gyud ako na lang gipabuthan kay kami na man ang gisung,” Rosales said.
The barangay tanods turned over the suspects to the Waterfront Police station for the filing of charges for violation of the Commission on Elections gun ban. —Ramil V. Ayuman/BRP (FREEMAN NEWS)
