Councilors oppose "SRP" shirts in City Hall float

CEBU, Philippines - Some City Councilors are opposing the plan to have those who will ride the city’s float during the Sinulog grand parade wear the t-shirts with the print “SRP” or “Suya Ra ang Probinsya.”

The phrase “Suya Ra ang Probinsya” came from Mayor Tomas Osmeña as a comment to the provincial government’s criticism of his management of the South Road Properties.

Requesting for anonymity, the Councilors said the plan to have those in the float wear the shirts might not be acceptable to the public.

“Dili g’yod na maayo ang plano nga kadtong mga musakay sa float sa City Hall pasul-obon og t-shirts unya may marka kini nga Suya Ra ang Probinsya,” one Councilor said.

Another Councilor said he is strongly against the plan, albeit he and the other councilors who oppose it would reportedly no longer discuss the matter with Osmeña.

The councilors requested for anonymity because the mayor might reportedly get back on them. Osmeña and some barangay captains have since been wearing black t-shirts printed with the phrase “Suya Ra ang Probinsya.”

City Public Information Officer and SRP Manager Nagiel Bañacia said it was his idea for the city to send a float come Sunday, but contrary to a newspaper report, it was reportedly not part of the idea to have City Hall personnel in “SRP” shirts ride on it.

“That’s my idea, but wala may pasakyon sa float…it’s wrong info,” Bañacia said. — Rene U. Borromeo/JMO (FREEMAN NEWS)
