UV honors Secretary Remonde as its outstanding alumnus

-

CEBU, Philippines - The University of Visayas Alumni Association, Inc. hailed Press Secretary Cerge Remonde as its Most Outstanding alumnus in yesterday’s 84th Grand Alumni Homecoming in Casino Español de Cebu.

In his speech, Remonde recalled his student days and acknowledged former classmates and mentors and thanked UV president Eduardo R. Gullas for being his personal inspiration.

Remonde was once a student from the College of Arts and Sciences then eventually enrolled in the College of Law.

He became a reporter of The Freeman and said that mediamen can also be public servants.

“In our public service, we should be a public servant who fights graft and corruption,” he said.

He pointed out that when he was named Press Secretary, he made history by breezing through the very tough Commission on Appointments and became the one who was fastest to get the nod of the bicameral body among the cabinet appointees.

Gullas praised Remonde for being a competent and a good press secretary.

He said that Remonde, albeit the many criticisms hurled at him for defending the president, is doing well in his capacity as a press secretary.

“I have never been proud in producing successful men and women from UV, he said, adding that Remonde made a good example to the rest of the UV alumni.

The event was also graced by Remode’s wife, Marit; Rep. Nerissa Soon-Ruiz and her husband Lito Ruiz; and lawyer Gloria Dalawampu, and columnist Eddie Barrita.

Another UV product who was recognized was Justice Portia A. Hormachuelos of the Court of Appeals.

Other Outstanding Visayanians were Cesar Kilaton Jr., Assistant Commissioner Emma Espina, lawyer Hermeno Palamine and Apollo Seno Enriquez.

Other achievers were given recognition by the different departments of the university.

There were eleven achievers from the College of Education; eleven from College of Arts and Sciences; and nine from the College of Engineering and Architecture.

Others recognized came from the College of Law, Maritime, Business Administration and elementary and secondary departments.

The recipients of the awards received a plaque and certificate of recognition for bringing name, prestige and honor to UV.

The homecoming was attended by around 400 alumni. – Marjun Baguio/NLQ   (FREEMAN NEWS)
