1 dead, another hurt in shooting incidents

-

CEBU, Philippines - Two men were shot by unidentified assailants in separate incidents in Cebu City early evening last Tuesday and early dawn yesterday.

The victims were identified as Silverio Olino Bardago, 68, and Jenner Banzon, 23. Bardago died while Banzon survived the gunshot wound on his face.

Bardago worked as a caretaker of a vacant lot owned by a retired colonel who currently resides in Daanbantayan town. Investigation showed the victim was sitting outside his shanty in Pleasant Homes, barangay Punta Princesa when a motorcycle-riding man arrived and shot him twice.

Bardago’s son, Renato, who was lying on an improvised bed nearby and his friend Antonio Olijal, rushed the victim inside the shanty in the hope to revive him, but the bullet that hit Bardago’s right temple was enough to kill him instantly.

Bardago’s remains will be subjected to an autopsy at the Saint Francis Funeral Homes. Police recovered two empty shells of a .45 caliber pistol from the crime scene.

Meanwhile, initial investigation showed that Banzon was walking along Spolarium Street in barangay Duljo-Fatima from the house of his friend, Jonathan delos Reyes, at around 1am yesterday when the unidentified assailant appeared and shot him.

Banzon was rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center and was lucky enough to survive the gunshot wound.

Police said the bullet might have entered the victim’s mouth because only an exit wound on his left cheek was found.

Banzon is a sales agent of Aseatic Agency and resides in Mandaue City. He went to Delos Reyes’ house in barangay Duljo Fatima to fix Delos Reyes’ internet connection and to give a PLDT application form to one Naida Moneja.
