CEBU, Philippines - A 21-year-old man died after the motorcycle he was driving hit a dump truck while traversing the national highway in barangay Paso, Alcoy town evening last Saturday.
The fatality was identified as Bonifacio Mejares, a resident of barangay Nug-as, in Alcoy town. He was on board a motorcycle with plate number TD 5151 at the time of the incident.
In an interview over dySS Super Radyo, SPO3 Eduardo Santander, desk officer of the Alcoy police, said Mejares was driving towards Dalaguete town to refuel his vehicle when he allegedly tried to take over another motorcycle while maneuvering a curve in barangay Paso.
While doing so, however, he met the mini dump truck bearing plate number YBU – 976 head on, which made Mejares lose control of his motorcycle and hit the left portion of the truck. The impact was reportedly enough to make the motorcycle turn turtle
Mejares sustained major injuries in different parts of his body, particularly on his head, which hit the concrete pavement when he fell off the motorcycle. The injury on his head caused his instantaneous death.
The mini dump truck is owned by one Roel Antonio Sistoso, a councilor of Alcoy town, but was driven by Allan Nievevez, 27, at the time of the incident.
Nievevez is temporarily being held at the Alcoy police station while awaiting charges against him. — Gabriel C. Bonjoc/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
