City in talks with property owners for Guadalupe - Lahug access road

CEBU, Philippines - City Councilor Jose Daluz III is presently negotiating with at least five property owners to convince them to allow the city to purchase part of their lots as road right of way for the establishment of an access road from barangay Guadalupe to Lahug.

“Kini na lang g’yud maoy naka-problema nga nadugay pagkahuman kining maong proyekto. Kon mosugot na sila nga ibaligya basi sa just compensation, mohimo dayon ko og appropriation request,” said Daluz, the principal proponent of the project.

The construction of an access road from Guadalupe to Lahug is a way of solving traffic congestion in the uptown areas of the city, particularly during classes.

Since barangay Kalunasan and Guadalupe are divided by the “Guadalupe river,” the government constructed a P20-million bridge linking the two barangays, but the city also paid for the rights of those families who were affected by the projects.

The opening of a road and bridge linking barangays Guadalupe and Kalunasan would make the travel time shorter for those motorists who wish to proceed to Guadalupe from Lahug, and vice versa. At present, those from barangay Lahug need to pass by Escario Street to go to barangay Guadalupe.

Once the project is completed, motorists coming from barangay Guadalupe may pass through the bridge going to Kalunasan towards sitio Sudlon in barangay Lahug. — Rene U. Borromeo/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
