Employment office in barangays pushed
CEBU, Philippines - Businessman Glenn Soco is urging barangay officials to assistant job seekers from their respective barangays.
Speaking before barangay leaders in Mandaue City, Soco said it has been his observation that not many cities and/or municipalities are active in helping job seekers. He said barangays can create their own employment office to complement the Public Employment Service Office.
Soco, who is seeking the vice gubernatorial post, used to manage his family’s janitorial and outsourcing company.
“Angayan nga diha pa lang gani sa barangay, mahibaw-an na kinsa kining mga potensyal para sa trabaho ug mga bag-ong graduates,” he said.
He said an employment office in the barangays can help address the problem of unemployment because job seekers can receive guidance and assistance at the grassroots level.
Soco said the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry has expressed support for his proposal. — Jose P. Sollano/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
