Man shot while playing mah-jong
CEBU, Philippines - Previous grudge over mah-jong almost cost a man his life after he was shot by a former playmate in Barangay Dakit, Toledo City last Sunday.
Pedro Genon, 30, remains at the hospital after he sustained a gunshot wound to the back of his body when the suspect, Alfredo Pandol, 33, resident of Sitio Katiro, Barangay Kabituonan fired two shots at him.
Initial investigation conducted by the Toledo city police revealed that the victim was enjoying playing mah-jong with neighbors when the suspect suddenly appeared from behind and shot the victim twice without any provocation.
The victim was hit once and was rushed to Toledo City Hospital by his neighbors but due to his fatal wound, doctors referred him to a hospital in Cebu City.
The police officers who responded the area did not recover any slug or empty shell in the crime scene.
Hot pursuit operation was immediately conducted but the police failed to arrest the suspect.
SPO2 Carmelito Hornalez, desk officer of Toledo city police believed that the suspect, a previous mah-jong playmate of the victim, got angry at the victim after he got lost in the game.
