CEBU, Philippines - Following her visit to Argao, the bailiwick of her opponent in next year’s elections, Governor Gwendolyn Garcia yesterday visited the town of Tuburan where she explained why she is supporting the leadership of Mayor Constancio Suezo III.
The municipality of Tuburan is the hometown of Vice Governor Gregorio Sanchez Jr. who is now seeking re-election under the Liberal Party with gubernatorial candidate Hilario Davide III.
Garcia said it was easy to give her support to Suezo because she knows the mayor can be an asset in her administration.
“Sa dihang gihagit ko nga papilion kon asa ko nga mupabor, wala akoy duha duha sa pagpili ngadto sa pamilyang Suezo gumikan kay misalig man ako sa ilang liderato sa lungsod sa Tuburan,” Garcia said.
Last Tuesday, Governor Garcia visited the municipalities of Dalaguete and Argao where she led the distribution of different projects for farmers and senior citizens.
Under her “Halad sa Gugma kang Lolo ug Lola” program, Garcia distributed financial assistance to 2,500 senior citizens in Argao town. In Tuburan, Garcia distributed Phil Health cards to residents in the municipality.
Garcia also distributed goats, as part of the goat dispersal program of the provincial government.
During her visits, Garcia also formally introduced businessman Glenn Anthony Soco as her running mate in next year’s polls. Garcia said she needs a vice governor who can help her implement her priority projects.
Garcia said that despite the lack of support from Tuburan in the 2004 and 2007 elections, she will continue to support the town.
“Akong ipasalig kaninyo nga ang akong paghatag sa serbisyo walay bulok politika, gumikan kay ang katawhan mao man akong prayoridad,” Garcia said.
Political observers say next year’s local national elections will determine whether voters from Argao and Tuburan where Davide and Sanchez come from will support the two. — Jose P. Sollano/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
