CEBU, Philippines - A teenager died after he was peppered with bullets by two unidentified men shortly after midnight yesterday at J.M. Basa Street in barangay San Nicolas, Cebu City.
Investigation showed that the suspects shot the victim, Junard Lendio Lumapak, 17, at close range. The suspects were reportedly wearing bonnets.
Lumapak just came from playing basketball with neighbors Ariel Canoy, 35, and Franklin Cabaral, 19, and was talking with the two along the road when the suspects arrived and shot the victim.
One of the two suspects even reportedly said, “Wala’y labot nang duha,” meaning only Lumapak was the target.
After pulling the trigger, the suspects fled the area on board a motorcycle that was waiting nearby driven by an accomplice. They repor-tedly sped towards C. Padilla Street.
Lumapak was rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival due to the gunshot wounds on his left chest and legs.
Police recovered five empty shells of a .45 caliber pistol from the crime scene.
PO3 Geoffrey Gutual of the city police homicide section said it was obvious that Lumapak was the only target, as Canoy and Cabaral were spared. He said they are now studying Lumapak’s background to determine the motive of the perpetrators.
Lumapak’s remains are now at the San Fernando Funeral Homes for autopsy. – Niña G. Sumacot/JMO (FREEMAN NEWS)
