Wife dead, husband wounded after being attacked by neighbor

CEBU, Philippines - A woman died while her husband sustained injuries after their relative attacked them at their farm in the southwestern town of Alegria early morning the other day.

The fatality was identified as Sesenia Ygoña. Her husband, Sesenio, is now confined at the hospital after he incurred a stab wound on his back.

In an interview over dySS, PO1 Arnel Resente of the Alegria police said the couple were at their farm in sitio Cagay-an, barangay Lipanto when the suspect, Eulogia Glodove, silently approached Sesenia, hugged her, and stabbed her on the back.

Sesenio reportedly tried to stop Glodove, but the suspect stabbed him as well. Authorities later learned that Glodove is Sesenio’s relative.

Resente said Glodove turned herself in after the incident and told authorities that she stabbed the victim after the latter allegedly attacked her last November 27.

Neighbors of the victims and the suspect said the two parties have reportedly been fighting over a property.

Charges for frustrated murder are expected to be filed against Glodove tomorrow.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, an 18-year-old sugarcane harvester is in critical condition after he was stabbed by a man who is believed to be mentally ill in barangay Managase, Tabogon town. 

Rommel Monteron suffered stab wounds on different parts of his body after the suspect, Marcelino Pino, attacked him when he was on his way to work. The victim and the suspect are neighbors.

Pino reportedly used a machete to attack Monteron. Monteron was rushed to the nearest hospital in Bogo town while Pino was brought to the Sogod hospital after he also sustained hack wounds on his feet. — Gabriel C. Bonjoc/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
