Capitol vows to prioritize education

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu provincial government will prioritize the construction and repair of school buildings and provide the needs of the teachers and students to improve the quality of education.

Speaking before the student teachers of the different elementary and high schools, Governor Gwen Garcia said her administration believes in the importance of education if they want development.

Garcia said the lack of classrooms, teachers and the necessary facilities is a big factor of poor quality graduates especially at high schools.

According to Governor Garcia, for the past years, the provincial government allocated million of pesos for the construction of school buildings.

Aside from the school buildings, Garcia said the provincial government also provided the students, especially from elementary, with notebooks.

She also promised to provide computers to the Patao National High School.

As this developed, Fourth District Rep. Benhur Salimbangon assured Governor Gwen Garcia that he will support her program to prioritize the implementation of programs that address the problem of promoting good quality education.

According to Salimbangon, his office will closely coordinate with the provincial government and the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce Inc. who also donated classrooms to the different towns in Cebu province.

Under the Operation Barrio Schools Program, the island barangay of Luyong Baybay in Bantayan Island received two classrooms buildings.

The fourth district congressman said that there is a need now for a good foundation before the students enrolled to high school and college. —Jose P. Sollano/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
