Atan: Kusug to rule north, Tom: Dream on Guardo
CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City South District Congressional Aspirant Jonathan Guardo is confident that the bets of Kugi Uswag Sugbu have the edge over the candidates of Bando Osmeña-Pundok Kauswagan headed by Mayor Tomas Osmeña in next year’s election.
Guardo even predicted that aside from him and his counterpart Mary Ann delos Santos, five of their candidates for councilor in the north district will win.
He explained that Kusug bets in the north district are more popular than BOPK’s candidates.
BOPK’s slate for councilor in the said district include Alvin Dizon, Alvin Arcilla, Nida Cabrera, Sisinio Andales, Noel Wenceslao and the incumbent councilors Edgardo Labella, Augustus Pe Jr. and Leah Japson.
The Kusug bets for councilor in the north district are Joel Garganera, Jerry Guardo, Raymond Garcia, Patrick Talisaysay, Lemar Alcover, Danilo Fernan, Fritz Quiñanola and Paul Melendez.
Guardo, however, admitted that BOPK candidates for the south district, Margot Osmeña, Ronald Cuenco and incumbent councilors Raul Alcoseba, Eduardo Rama, Richard Osmeña, Roberto Cabarrubias, Jose Daluz III and councilor Rodrigo Abellanosa are formidable.
But Guardo stressed that their slate for councilors that include Milagros Camacho, Anastacio Masong, Ann Marie Palomo, Raul Recaredo del Rosario, Danilo Teves, Ruben Baculi, Danilo Lim and Jose Navarro cannot also be discounted.
In fact, the congressional aspirant is expecting that they can get four slots for councilors in the south district come election time.
“We have a higher chance kay lig-on man gyud atong mga kandidato aside sa mga dakong issue nga amo unyang tukion atol sa pangampanya,” Guardo said.
Meanwhile, Mayor Osmeña said that the opposition, particularly Guardo, is entitled to dream about the outcome in next year’s election.
But the mayor gave a pointer to Guardo that he should look at the record of BOPK and not for his prediction.
Osmeña said that in the last elections all of their candidates won.
The mayor said they are very prepared for the 2010 elections and they will campaign hard just to duplicate their win last elections.
“Sa pagkakaron, we are very well prepared because we have something to show to the people and let the result speak for itself,” Osmeña said. — Elly Bolonos/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
