Mariquita Yeung running for Bogo mayor
CEBU, Philippines - Businesswoman Mariquita Salimbangon Yeung has decided to run for Bogo mayor in next year’s elections, challenging the re-election bid of incumbent Bogo Mayor Celestino Martinez Jr.
Before Yeung filed her Certificate of Candidacy she was joined by her brother, 4th district Rep. Benhur Salimbangon, Governor Gwen Garcia and her runningmate Glenn Anthony Soco, mayors of the different municipalities in the district and thousands of supporters in attending a Mass officiated by Rev. Fr. Roland Anthony “Tata” Torres.
After the Mass, supporters of Yeung presented to Salimbangon a box containing documents with 10,000 signatures they gathered to convince Yeung to seek the highest post in Bogo.
Yeung and Governor Garcia then proceeded to the Commission on Elections office at the Bogo Municipal Hall to file her CoC.
Yeung said she accepted the challenge and promised to work for the development of the town if given the chance to serve the people of Bogo.
Two weeks ago, more than 5,000 Bogo residents gathered at the San Vincent Ferrer Church to pray for Mariquita to accept their challenge.
“Nalipay kaayo kami nga misanong si Ma’am Mariquita sa among pag-awhag kaniya,” said Malingin, Bogo, barangay captain Marilyn Calibguib.
Yeung, meanwhile, thanked Governor Garcia, Soco, the mayors of the fourth district and the people of Bogo who trust her.
Yeung picked her brother Cesar Salimbangon as her runningmate.
Only seven filed their CoCs for councilor. They are Rogelio Toring, Tita Dy, Juniel Bong Galve, Glen Jumao-as, Eliezer Andrino, Vicente Alarde and Valeriano Hortelano. – Jose P. Sollano/BRP (FREEMAN NEWS)
