Cuenco formally named ambassador

-

CEBU, Philippines - It’s official. Cebu South District Representative Antonio Cuenco has been appointed as the Philippine Ambassador to Italy, Press Secretary Cerge Remonde announced yesterday.

He will soon be assuming the post held by Philippe Lhuillier.

Cuenco said that the new position may be a tough job, but he is more than ready and willing to take over.

He said all his clearances are complete which includes his tax clearance, ombudsman clearance, police and health clearance among others.

“The Rome assignment is very important. Di nako pakauwawan ang gobyerno,” Cuenco assured the public.

There are about 350, 000 overseas Filipino workers in Rome, another approximately 100,000 are in Venice, Cuenco said.

The main concerns of majority of them are maltreatment and insufficient salary, he said. “Addressing these problems requires a lot of diplomatic approach. I can approach legislators in Italy to increase their salary. And we will tell them that we are advocating human rights,” Cuenco said. — Jessica Ann R. Pareja/BRP (FREEMAN NEWS)
