CEBU, Philippines - The Barili police have arrested three men they suspect may have robbed a former mayor of Barili last week and killed his wife in the process.
Around 6:30 a.m. yesterday, Barili police chief Chief Insp. Alexander Soledad served the search warrant on Alvin Regual, Roel Regual and Mario Delfino.
Police reported finding guns on the suspects; Alvin had a .38 cal. revolver, Roel had a .357 revolver while Delfino had a .38 cal, revolver and a .357 revolver.
The police said the suspects were involved in many robberies in their town.
Soledad said that the operation was part of their campaign against loose guns, but they also suspect the three were involved in the robbery of former vice mayor Luisito Ponsica and the death of his wife Gina.
The former vice mayor and his wife just arrived home from Cebu City last Wednesday after withdrawing money. When Gina opened their gate two unidentified masked men grabbed her bag but Gina resisted and the suspects shot her in the chest and abdomen.
Luisito tried to help his wife and was shot in the abdomen, leg and hand.
The two robbers immediately fled onboard a motorcycle with Gina’s bag that contained P400,000. — Gabriel C. Bonjoc/BRP
