After Manila Blasts: Comendador says Cebu City is safe

CEBU, Philippines - City Police Director Patrocinio Comendador yesterday assured Cebuanos that the city police have remained on constant alert since the October 18 robbery of a Rolex store in Greenbelt 5.

Comendador made the assurance following the two explosions that rocked Mandaluyong City and Quezon City early morning yesterday.

The explosion in Mandaluyong happened 3am at the corner of Julia Vargas and San Miguel Avenue, destroying a signage of San Miguel Corporation. Two hours later, a blast occurred in front of the Puregold Supermarket along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City.

No one was hurt in the two incidents.

Comendador said utmost vigilance is paramount, considering the successive criminal activities that hit Manila.

Last October 23, authorities from cities in Metro Cebu met with security personnel of malls to discuss measures to prevent the Greenbelt incident from happening here.

Officers of financial institutions, police officials from the Mandaue City Police Office, Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, Police Regional Operations and Plans Division and Regional Security Agencies and Guards Supervision Unit (RSAGSU) 7 also attended the meeting.

Comendador said policemen are detailed in the streets and major thoroughfares daily while checkpoints and saturation drives, among others, are constantly conducted against all forms of illegal activities and in anticipatory of possible major crimes.
