Tanod shot in Punta Princesa "gang war"
CEBU, Philippines - Just in a span of 12 hours since last Friday night until early morning yesterday, one person was killed and three others, including a barangay tanod were injured in separate shooting incidents in Cebu City.
At 2:10 a.m. yesterday, an 18-year-old barangay tanod was shot while trying to pacify a commotion between members of alleged “Crips” gang and another group of youngsters on F. Pacaña St., Barangay Punta Princesa.
Rene Dela Cerna, a barangay tanod of Punta Princesa, said he woke up from his sleep when he heard of a commotion in their area. He later learned that a certain Michael, an alleged member of Crips and his companions figured in a trouble against another group of youngsters.
As a barangay tanod, Dela Cerna said he went to the scene to verify and try to pacify the persons involved but as he was about to approach the suspects, one of them suddenly attacked and shot him.
The victim sustained a gunshot wound to his stomach and was rushed to the Miller Sanitarium Hospital but was later transferred to the Cebu City Medical Center.
In Sitio Kalubihan, Talamban, two motorcycle-riding men shot to death David Tajanlangit, 37, jobless, while he was sitting near a lechon stand at past 4 p.m. Friday.
When the assailants arrived on board a green motorcycle, the one riding at the back alighted and without any word, shot the victim several times then immediately fled from the place on board the vehicle.
Policemen saw the victim lying on the ground with gunshot wounds to his left temple, left arm, and left side of the body. An empty shell and a slug were recovered from the crime scene. Personnel of the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation pronounced the victim dead.In another incident, Eduardo Layson, 45, native of Tacloban, Leyte and a sub-contractor of a construction company landed at the hospital after he was shot by one of his employees along Del Rosario St.
The victim alleged that two of his employees, who he identified only as certain Rommel and Johnny, got irked after he only gave them P300 for the cash advance that they asked.
Rommel, who allegedly had a gun tucked in his waist, in connivance with Johnny, shot the victim’s back and immediately fled away from the place while the victim was rushed to CCMC.
In Sitio Fatima, Englis V. Rama Avenue, Barangay Guadalupe at 4:40 a.m. yesterday, Alvin Gallardo and John Paul II Gonzon, both 18, were shot by certain Zapart and his two cohorts.
The victims just alighted from a taxicab that they hired on their way home when the armed suspects approached then shot them.
Gallardo was hit to the stomach while Gonzon sustained a wound on the right foot and were rushed to CCMC for treatment. — Niña G. Sumacot/WAB (FREEMAN NEWS)
