Gaquing set for retirement

CEBU, Philippines - The director of the Cebu Provincial Police Office, Sr. Supt. Jesus Gaquing, received last week the approval order of his retirement from the Philippine National Police service.

The approval order stated that he will be serving PNP only until May 22 next year.Gaquing, 55, said that he served the PNP for almost 34 years now and he considers this service as a memorable one because of the good and bad experiences he has had.

Gaquing became a member of the now-defunct Philippine Constabulary-Integrated National Police reserve in 1976. He was assigned in different areas both critical and neutral.

In 1982 he sustained gunshot wounds when his team encountered rebels in Surigao del Sur.He would later show his scars to members of media.

In his 34 years in service he said he faced 13 cases.Some were already dismissed but others are still pending in the office of the ombudsman.But Gaquing said that any policeman doing his job should expect to face charges as he cannot please everyone.

He also advised policemen to do their jobs well and to avoid abusing their position.He added that the police officers who are assigned in the neutral areas are lucky so they should stay away from any foolishness.

“Dili lalim nga ma-assign og critical nga lugar busa ang naa na-assign sa neutral nga lugar magtinarung gyud,” Gaquing said.
