Korean charged in court for stabbing fellow Koreans

CEBU, Philippines - A Korean national was indicted for two counts of frustrated homicide after he stabbed his two companions following a heated argument inside a disco bar along Archbishop Reyes Avenue in barangay Mabolo last September 4, 2008.

Prosecutors yesterday recommended P24,000 for Cho Ji Hun’s temporary liberty.

The charges stemmed from a simple misunderstanding between Cho Ji Hun and two other Koreans Jun Ui Jeong and Sung Chul Park.

The misunderstanding started when the accused who was very drunk allegedly shouted at Park. Jun Ui Jeong pacified him until the security personnel of the bar came.

Park and Jeong said they later decided to go home but the accused allegedly tailed their car prompting them to stop in Mabolo to confront Hun. A confrontation between Park and Hun followed, which escalated into a fistfight and eventually into Hun stabbing Park several times.

Jeong tried to rescue Park by hitting Hun with a stone, but also suffered the same fate as Jeong. — Fred P. Languido/JMO
