Two killed in road accidents
CEBU, Philippines - At least two persons died in two separate road accidents in Cebu province on Tuesday.
In the first incident, Jhonny Mariano, 25, of Sto. Niño, Lamac, Liloan died after he was hit by a government-owned dump truck along the national highway in Sitio Pagutlan, Barangay Yati.
Investigation revealed that while Mariano was crossing the road, the speeding dump truck bearing a plate numbers SEZ- 672 owned by the provincial government and driven by Cresente Apas, 59, of Alang-Alang Mandaue City suddenly hit the victim.
Cresente said the incident happened too fast that he was no longer able to step on the brakes to avoid Mariano. The driver immediately brought the victim to a hospital in Cebu City but the attending physician declared him dead on arrival.
Cresente voluntarily surrendered himself to the responding police officers.
Meanwhile, a 24-year-old habal-habal (motorcycle for hire) driver was killed after another motorcycle bumped into his vehicle in Sitio Ayung, Barangay Maya, Daanbantayan town last Tuesday morning.
The fatality was identified as Christopher Sequinio, married, of Sitio Purgason, Barangay Maya.
Police said Sequinio was just sitting on his motorcycle that was parked beside the road when Rolando Pareja, who was driving a black and red colored Honda motorcycle bearing a plate numbers 3535-GL hit him.
The victim was rushed to the nearest hospital but later declared dead by the attending physician due to serious physical injuries he suffered.
It was learned that Pareja, who was heading towards Barangay Talisay, was trying to overtake another motorcycle when he swerved to the side of the road and hit Sequinio.
Pareja is now in the custody of the police while waiting for the charges to be filed against him. — Gabriel C. Bonjoc/WAB (FREEMAN NEWS)
