Completion of north coastal road "41% ahead of target"

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu North Coastal Road Project is expected to be completed this December which is eight months ahead of the target date of completion.

DPWH Metro Cebu Development Project director Nilo Pamaylaon said that the said project is 41 percent ahead of its schedule.

Press Secretary Cerge Remonde said that this is good news and that he will inform President Gloria Arroyo about this development.

Remonde said that this is one of PGMA’s pet projects for Cebu.

“We are happy to hear that. PGMA will certainly commend DPWH if they will finish ahead of schedule. It’s one project she inspects almost everytime she is in Cebu. A concrete manifestation of the special place that Cebu holds in her heart,” Remonde said in a text message sent to The FREEMAN.

Pamaylaon said that the Cansaga Bridge is expected to be substantially completed by the last week of December.

Earlier this year, President Arroyo scolded DPWH Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane and some DPWH officials over the delay of the project. The President instructed the latter to work on the project 24/7 on three shifts.

Ebdane, however, reasoned out that the rising cost of construction materials has caused the delay of the project.

The project is expected to cut travel time from the north to Cebu City by 30 minutes.

.The said coastal road project is one of the components of the Industrial Corridor Link of Cebu Province. Once completed, it will improve the infrastructure facilities in Mandaue City and its neighboring towns like Consolacion and Liloan which are now being considered as “alternative business investment areas amid the saturated business climate of Cebu City.” — Mitchelle L.
