CEBU, Philippines - The continuing animosity between the rival street gangs “Bloods” and “Crips” led to the injury of two innocent bystanders and arrest of two gang members in Modesta, Barangay Guadalupe early morning yesterday.
Reza Diapana, 23, and Orland Cabillon, 31, both residents of the area landed at the Cebu City Medical Center after they were hit by a stray bullet when alleged members of Bloods fired at Christian Barinque, 21, a member of Crips.
Diapana sustained a gunshot to his arm while Cabillon was hit in the leg.
PO2 Geofrey Gutual, Homicide Section investigator, said a group of eight youngsters, believed to be member of Bloods were behind the shooting.
Gatual said Barinque, who was the real target of the crime, was able to escape unscathed.
Elements of Guadalupe Police Station immediately conducted a follow up operation that led to the arrest of Mark Arcos and Henry Malinao, both residents of the place and members of Bloods.
Meanwhile, man who was working as caretaker for a businesswoman was shot dead by an unidentified man while he was sleeping inside his room at 4 a.m. yesterday in Sitio Tana, Barangay Tisa.
The police identified the fatality as Felix Nilo Daro Tabigue, Jr., 26, single, and native of Nueva Estrella, Buen Unido Bohol, while the gunman was only described as wearing a white T-shirt and black pants and stood about 5’4 to 5’5 tall.
According to Gretel Gea Daclan, 32, employer of the victim, she was with house helper Jessa Patindol, 16, and victim’s sister Shiela Mhie Tabigue, cooking food in the kitchen when she saw the gunman’s back-up hurriedly walked away from her house. They then heard two successive bursts of gunfire and when they verified the origin of the shooting, they saw the gunman hurriedly got out of the victim’s room and fled.
When they further checked, they found Tabigue’s body lying on his back on top of the wooden bed still under a mosquito net. The victim sustained gunshot wounds to the right side of his face with the bullet exiting on the left side of his head, which believed to have caused his instantaneous death.
Police recovered two empty shells and a slug of .45 caliber pistol from the crime scene.
Daclan and Tabigue’s sister alleged that the victim had no enemies in their place and that they had no idea who was behind the crime. — Ramil V. Ayuman and Niña G. Sumacot/WAB (FREEMAN NEWS)
