Son kills father with "pugakhang"

CEBU, Philippines - A 28-year-old man killed his father using homemade shotgun midday yesterday in barangay Tisa following a heated argument between them.

The suspect, Rogelio Luceno, voluntarily surrendered to the Punta Princesa Police Station. The victim was identified as Rogelio Luceno, Sr.

Investigation revealed that the suspect was having lunch with his mother, Cerila, in their shanty in sitio Mohundas when the victim arrived already drunk.

The younger Rogelio reportedly confronted his father why the latter took a portion of their bamboo floor, which created an opening. The suspect said his two nieces, ages seven and eight, have fallen into the opening.

The confrontation reportedly irked the father and prompted him to take out his knife. Seeing the weapon, the son went down the shanty and came back carrying the homemade shotgun locally known as “pugakhang.”

Cerila told the police that her son shot his father, just as the latter moved to strike at his son with the bladed weapon. The victim was hit on his right eye.

Crime scene investigators recovered a 12-inch knife near the victim’s body.

The body was taken to the San Fernando Funeral Homes for autopsy while the suspect is now detained at the Cebu City Police Office stockade. — Niña G. Sumacot/JMO (FREEMAN NEWS)
