Man admits accidentally killing wife, tries to commit suicide

-

CEBU, Philippines - The husband of a woman who was reported to have been killed by a stray bullet in Moalboal town last Sunday evening surrendered to authorities and admitted that he was the one who accidentally killed his wife.

Rene Boy Rozonable, 40, surrendered to Sabeno Impante last Monday afternoon. Impante is the chairman of barangay Buguil in Moalboal and the uncle of Rozonable’s wife Thelma. Rozonable also surrendered his Ingram to the barangay chief.

PO3 Renberto Empenado of the Moalboal Police said that Rozonable was actually tinkering with his firearm at the ground floor of their house when the gun accidentally fired and hit his wife who was sleeping at the second floor.

Rozonable was reportedly drunk at that time.

“Nakonsensya siguro to siya ba nga iyang napatay iyang asawa, pero ingon siya nga accidental firing lang to kay nag-cock-cock man siya sa iyang Ingram nga nag-atubang sa babaw nga naa sab natulog iyang asawa sa taas,” Empenado said.

Rozonable was subsequently placed in prison and reportedly even tried to commit suicide by tying a rope around his neck. However, his plan did not materialize because another prisoner alerted the policeman on duty by shouting for help.

Rozonable was rushed to the hospital and survived.

Initial investigation last Sunday revealed that Thelma went to the second floor after a conversation with Rozonable and the latter’s sister at the ground floor.

A few minutes later, Rozonable and his sister heard a burst of gunfire, which prompted them to rush to the second floor. There, they saw Thelma sprawled on the bed, bathed in her own blood. A bullet had pierced through her left eye and killed her instantly. — Gabriel C. Bonjoc/JMO   NLQ   (FREEMAN NEWS)
