CEBU, Philippines - For P120 inside her coin purse, a 30-year-old mother was stabbed dead in an alleged robbery the other night in sitio Ipil, barangay Basak-San Nicolas, this city.
The victim just came from her work as a sales supervisor in a mall in the downtown area. She brought with her some goodies for her young son, but she did not make it home alive.
The victim was identified as Charlita Palao Ferolino, a resident of the place where the crime took place.
She sustained a lone stab wound on her right shoulder.
The suspect, a 17-year-old boy, was immediately arrested by barangay tanods. He claimed to have been drunk and admitted to stabbing the victim, but said he did not rob her.
The arresting officers, however, found in his possession the coin purse of the victim containing P120.
“Luoy gyud kaayo ‘to ang biktima kay bag-o pa daw nanganak,” said PO3 Edario Manatad, homicide investigator, said.
Manatad said the motive of killing was robbery.
The arresting tanods also recovered from the suspect a seven-inch long buck knife, which he allegedly used to stab the victim.
The police investi-gator said that the victim was stabbed after she resisted the robbery attempt.
“Nisukol man to ang biktima unya gidiretso sab pagdunggab,” Manatad said.
The suspect said, “Ambot sir kay hubog kaayo ko atong higayona ang akong nahibaw-an nga nidagan na ko kay gigukod nako sa mga tawo. Nagbasol ko sa akong gibuhat.”
He is now detained at the Mambaling Police Station. Charges of robbery with homicide will be filed against him today.
Ferolino was a native of Sevilla, Bohol. She worked at Colonnade Mall since April 1999. She was supposed to celebrate her 31st birthday on November 1.
Her husband, Ramil Ferolino, was waiting for her arrival at their rented room. He was taking care of their one-year-old baby when he heard the victim shout near their gate.
He said that he saw her already bloodied and sprawled on the ground when he reached his wife.
The victim was still taken to the Cebu City Medical Center, but was declared dead on arrival. Her remains now lie at the Eternal Funeral Homes along N. Bacalso Avenue.
The husband said that the victim reported for work 8 a.m. that day and logged out at 9 p.m. as she worked overtime.
The victim, after disembarking from a vehicle at the highway, still had to walk around 300 meters towards their boarding house.
Insp. Vicente Velasquez, chief of the Homicide Section of the Cebu City Police Office, said that when he talked to the suspect, he claimed to have been very angry at his mother and vented his ire on Ferolino.
Velasquez also belied earlier reports that the victim resisted.
He said that the suspect just stabbed the victim after robbing her.
