CEBU, Philippines - Two died while four others were injured when two habal-habal drivers (motorcycles for hire) collided head on in Barangay Mohon, Sogod last Saturday evening.
Both drivers of the two motorcycles, Roel Dela Cerna Banguardia, 46, of Barangay Lugo, Borbon and Alquin Comendador, 30, of Barangay Lubo, Sogod were declared dead on the spot due to serious injuries they sustained in the different parts of their bodies.
Banguardia was driving a black Loncin motorcycle bearing a plate number GM-4469, with four back riders from Borbon bound to Tuburan, Cebu while Comendador was driving a black Kawasaki bearing plate number GR-9826, owned by Bobby Comendador and was heading home when the accidents happened.
Traffic investigators said the two were traveling towards opposite directions and upon reaching Sitio Camansi, Barangay Mohon, Sogod, while negotiating on a curve road, the Kawasaki motorcycle encroached to the other lane resulting in a head on collision.
Because of the high speed and impact, both drivers were thrown into the concrete pavement causing them severe head injuries that led to their instantaneous deaths.
The four back riders of Banguardia, Pedro Fortuna, 27, of Barangay Apalan, Tuburan and Maricel Onde, 20; Warly Diniga, 24 and Janjen Romo, 7, all of Barangay Putat, Tuburan were rushed by residents to the nearby hospital for treatment.
Fortuna was later transferred to a hospital in Cebu City due to the serious injuries he sustained while the other three were released from the hospital after an hour of medication.—Gabriel C. Bonjoc/WAB (FREEMAN NEWS)
