Son buries ma beneath house

CEBU, Philippines - An 18-year-old trisikad driver was detained after reportedly burying his own mother, who allegedly succumbed to a seizure disorder, in the ground beneath their house last Wednesday morning in sitio Villaflor, barangay Talangnan, Madridejos town.

Santos Marabi Escalicas is now at the Madridejos Police detention cell after relatives reported that he buried the body of his mother, Enriqueta Escalicas, over 50 years old, under their house.

Responding police, with the help of barangay tanods and kagawads, unearthed the body which was allegedly buried at a depth of “one and a half feet.” The remains were then transferred to the chapel of the barangay as an interment schedule will still be arranged.

The son narrated that when he went home at around 10 a.m. last Wednesday, he found the lifeless body of his mother inside their house. He said that because of financial constraints, he decided to bury her beneath their house.

After that, he informed his relatives at around 7 p.m. of what had happened.

He told the authorities who took him to the police station that the situation sent him in panic, so he decided then to bury his mother beneath their house.

His relatives also told the police that they decided to report the matter immediately to the authorities to erase speculations of a foul play.

Still, the police requested that an autopsy be conducted on the body. They also ensure the release of Santos in the absence of a complainant. — Niña G. Sumacot/MEEV   (THE FREEMAN)
