CEBU, Philippines - A 51-year-old man was found hanging lifeless from an extended beam of a house near his own residence in sitio Ubos Puso, barangay Basak San Nicolas early yesterday morning.
The man was identified as Jaime Tabanas, a constructor worker.
Jovanni Navarro, the one who first saw Tabanas, said he was heading home early yesterday morning when he saw Jaime’s body hanging lifeless from the beam of a house beside the road.
Navarro used a telephone wire to hang himself.
“Gikan ko nag-standby ato unya pagpauli nako unta sa balay nakuratan lang ko dihang nakit-an nako si noy Jaime nagbitay na daplin sa dan maong nangayo dayon ko og panabang sa mga silingan ug gipahibawo ang iyang mga anak,” Navarro said.
Tabanas was rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center but doctors pronounced him dead. His wife died due to an illness 10 years ago. He left six children.
His eldest child, Jackie, said her father was suffering from a stomach problem after a drinking spree last Sunday.
“Mora to siya og gikabuhi kay nagsigi og inom unya way kaon-kaon. Amo gani to siya gipadala sa Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center sa psychiatric ward kay nagduda na man ko sa iyang mga lihok,” Jackie said.
She also disclosed there was one time that Tabanas reportedly tried to stab himself and jumped off the window of a neighbor’s house.
“Ambot naglibog gyud ko sa akong papa kay magsigi man siya og ingon nga dunay buot mugukod niya ug mupatay,” she said. — Ramil V. Ayuman (THE FREEMAN)
