CEBU, Philippines - A firearm can kill when fired, and so when used in hitting a person.
A 23-year-old man was declared dead on arrival in a hospital after he was struck by unknown caliber of firearm after he went berserk at around 8:30 p.m. last Tuesday in Spolarium Street, Barangay Duljo Fatima, Cebu City.
Ariel Nacua, resident of the place, suffered injury in his left eyebrow when an unidentified man, who was allegedly wearing a sweat shirt, blue slacks and his face covered with a white cloth, suddenly hit him with an undetermined caliber of firearm.
Analiza Nacua, sister of the victim, said that prior to the incident, her brother and his friend, a certain Roland, were having a drinking spree in one of the videoke bars in their place. When they got drunk, the two men allegedly decided to leave the Ariel went berserk that made some customers and motorists panic.
She further alleged that she heard a single burst of gunfire and saw a man mauled and struck his brother in the head with the use of unknown caliber of firearm rendering the latter unconscious. After which, the unidentified suspect fled towards Sitio Balilihan.
Ariel was rushed to Cebu City Medical Center for treatment but the attending physician declared him dead on arrival.
Police officers believed the victim suffered blood clot in his brain caused by the impact when he was struck in the head by the use of a firearm.
“Nanghagis mani siya, unya sige’g ingon nga kinsay isog diri kay akong dunggabon,” said PO3 Geoffry Gutual of Cebu City Police Office Homicide Section.
Investigating policemen learned that the gunfire heard was from the firearm of the suspect, who was allegedly riding a trisikad when his gun fell and accidentally fired. Luckily, no one was reported hit by a stray bullet. — Gabriel C. Bonjoc/WAB (FREEMAN NEWS)
