2 hurt in shooting, stabbing incidents
CEBU, Philippines - Two men were injured in separate shooting and stabbing incidents last Saturday night in Cebu City.
The fist incident happened in Sitio Caimito, Barangay Carreta at past 8 p.m. wherein Aljen Bontia, 37, an electrician was shot by one of the three men he was having a talk with before the incident.
Investigation showed that while the victim was talking in an alley with a neighbor, a certain Tata, and two other unidentified men arrived and a heated verbal altercation suddenly ensued between them.
The three men then left but few minutes later, they came back with one of them already armed with a gun and suddenly shot the victim repeatedly hitting his head.
Despite his wounds, the victim still managed to run inside the house of his neighbor, Rudy Baguio before he fell near the stairway when he was about to go upstairs.
Bontia was rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center while the perpetrators fled towards M.J. Cuenco Avenue onboard a motorcycle.
Police recovered three empty sells and a slug of undetermined caliber of firearm from the crime scene.
The gunman was described as wearing a helmet with his face covered by a white face towel and his other companion wore a basketball jersey with the word “Cabatu” printed on its back.
Investigation will include verification that the victim is engaged in illegal drug activities as an informant said that he used to be an errand boy for Tata who is also allegedly into illegal drug business.
Less than three hours later at sitio Warwick Barracks, Barangay Ermita, Francisco Abad, 32, a stay-in construction worker of Arts Builders and native of Barangay Kag-ot, Samar was injured when Manuel Tortaga, 26, slashed his neck and stabbed him.
The victim told police that he was with co-workers Romel Perez and a certain Molina having a drinking session. But later on, the two decided to go home while he stayed.
But while Abad allegedly continued drinking, the suspect suddenly came from behind and for unknown reasons held him and slashed his neck then stabbed his left leg.
Residents who noticed the commotion took the victim to CCMC while the suspect was arrested by responding policemen.
