Bike for Peace hits Minglanilla

-

CEBU, Philippines - To continue their goal to spread peace through cycling, 219 bikers from different bikers clubs in Cebu participated in the 6th Bike for Peace last Sunday in Minglanilla town.

The most number of participants came from the Spirit of Paradise composed of personnel of the Central Command. The other participating bikers groups include Cebu Bikers Club, Cardinals Bikers Club of Cebu City, Trailmakers Bikers Club of Talisay City, All Terrain Bikers of Guadalupe Club, and Compostela Dreamers Bikers Club.

Seven walk-in participants also joined the event.

The event started with a Tae Bo session at the Minglanilla sports complex and was followed by the main biking event around the municipality. A short program and giving of giveaways followed thereafter.

The event was organized by Brig. Gen. Jessie Dellosa, Deputy Commander of the Central Command in partnership with The FREEMAN. The newspaper’s marketing head Janet Montenegro was also present last Sunday.

Personnel from the 53rd Engineering Brigade led by Col. Arnaldo Fernandez also extended support by taking charge of the band and the Tae Bo exercises.

Aside from SOP President Lt. Henry Maglasin, Col. Joey Reyes, commanding officer of the 7th Forward Service Support Unit of the Army Support Command also showed support.

Dellosa said the “Bike for Peace” was hatched with the intention of spreading peace and prosperity throughout the province. He said there can be no development if there is no peace.

The activity also promotes physical fitness and environmental protection.

“Yung ating ina-advocate na napakagandang objective, ‘yung peace, ay tuloy-tuloy pa rin,” Dellosa said.

Minglanilla Vice Mayor Elanito Peña thanked the organizers for holding the event in the town. The different bikers clubs also expressed continuous support to Bike for Peace.

The last Bike for Peace was held last August 8 in Compostela and was joined by more more than 200 cyclists. The next event will be held next month either in Naga or Argao.

The activity is being supported by Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia and was launched at the Capitol last March 21. — Niña G. Sumacot/JMO   (THE FREEMAN)
