Mandaue bridge finished by October

-

CEBU, Philippines - The Department of Public Works and Highways has assured that the construction of the Cabancalan-Canduman Bridge in Mandaue City will be finished in October.

Cebu sixth district Representative Nerissa Corazon Soon-Ruiz said that once completed, the project would be a big help in easing the traffic in the area.

“I hope that this project would give a solution to our traffic problems and reduce the burden of our drivers, especially those passing by that area,” said Ruiz.

Ruiz was the one requesting for the construction of the bridge, whose funding comes from the national government.

The two-way concrete bridge has a length of 40 meters and width of 7.32 meters.

It has 125-meter approach on the side of Cabancalan and 135-meter approach on the side of Canduman.

The Department of Budget and Management released the funds for the implementation of the project under SARO No. A-09-00206 issued earlier this year.

Its construction was set to be finished this month but the completion target was moved to October as works have been suspended due to bad weather, unworkable ground condition, and non-removal of telephone and electric posts.

However, some of the posts were already transferred.

DPWH is also working on acquiring right-of-way for the approaches of the bridge to speed up its completion.

It already wrote a letter to the Mandaue City Assessor’s Office requesting for the appraisal of the improvements made by owners of lots affected by the project. — Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/LPM (THE FREEMAN)
