Police burn almost P1M worth of marijuana at SRP

CEBU, Philippines - Close to 10,000 stalks of fully-grown marijuana with an estimated street value of almost P1 million was burned down past 1 p.m. yesterday at the South Road Properties.

Cebu City Police Office deputy director for operations, Supt. Pablo Labra II, said the 9,622 marijuana plants, with the height of about an average tall man, were uprooted during the 23 operations conducted by the Cebu City Mobile Group from the period of February up to the second week of this month. They were uprooted from the different barangays of Cebu City, particularly from the mountain barangays of Sudlon II, Tabunan, Tagba-o, and Pung-ol Sibugay.

CCPO director Supt. Patrocinio Comendador and police station chiefs and Councilor Augustus Pe Jr., chairman of the City Council committee on public order and safety were also present during the event.

Pleased by the CCMG’s performance, Pe assured to give cash reward to the unit’s personnel headed by Supt. Eliseo Castronuevo, aside from the commendations given to them every after operation conducted.

The councilor also gave the same commendations and cash reward to the barangay officials who fed the information to the police that led to the uprooting of marijuana stalks. — Niña G. Sumacot/WAB   (THE FREEMAN)
