CEBU, Philippines - After the senior citizens, the differently-abled of Cebu City are also set to receive cash incentives.
This was announced yesterday by Mayor Tomas Osmeña. He said that the city will grant the differently-abled P4,000 each every year.
Osmeña explained that this will be regardless of age of the beneficiary for as long as he or she is a resident of the city.
In case the beneficiary is a child, the parents must be city residents and are registered voters.
The mayor explained that the reason why he requires the applicants to prove that they are registered voters in Cebu City is because he expects that some persons from other places might come to the city and claim to be residents of certain barangays just to collect the benefits.
“Sigurado g’yod nga dunay taga probinsya nga makadungog nga nanghatag ang syudad og benefits sa mga dunay apan sa panglawas, moanhi sa syudad aron mopahimulos kay wala man kini sa ilang probinsya,” the mayor said.
He however pointed out that senior citizens, who are also differently-abled, will not anymore get the additional amount.
Osmeña earlier admitted that doing good things for the people is his way of politicking and this giving out of cash to the senior citizens and differently-abled is one way of doing it.
More importantly, the mayor said he just wants to show to Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia that she is wrong when she and the other provincial officials said the city is already bankrupt.
Osmeña has criticized the province saying that while he, who has been tagged as mayor of a bankrupt city has given to the elderly, unlike Capitol that boasts of having a lot of money. — Rene U. Borromeo/NLQ (THE FREEMAN)
