Farmer lands in hospital after attacked by brother-in-law

CEBU, Philippines - A 28-year-old farmer in Sogod town sustained stab wounds on various parts of his body after his brother-in-law attacked him last Monday morning.

Investigation revealed that the suspect, Roderick Tulipas, 27, had an axe to grind against the victim, Rolly Perales, after the latter left Tulipas’ elder sister after the woman gave birth to Perales’ child barely five months ago.

Shortly after he left the woman, the woman’s father even chased Perales with a scythe when Perales tried to get near and reconcile with his wife. He was fortunate enough to evade his father-in-law.

Last Monday, however, Perales was walking along the road in barangay Cabalawan in Sogod town when Tulipas arrived on board a motorcycle and attacked Perales using a knife. Perales tried to evade but Tulipas was fast enough to hit the victim on his left arm and left abdomen.

Perales was rushed to the Juan Dosado Memorial Hospital in Sogod but was later transferred to a hospital in Cebu City.

Tulipas subsequently surrendered to one Diomedes Parame, a tanod of barangay Cabalawan. - Gabriel C. Bonjoc/JMO   (THE FREEMAN)
