Stray bullets hurt two in Tejero

CEBU, Philippines - Two women were injured after they were hit with stray bullets in yesterday afternoon’s shooting incident in Villagonzalo II, barangay Tejero, Cebu City.

Annabelle Zabala, 23 years old, and Veronica Osiones, 52, were taken to the Velez General Hospital after sustaining gunshot wounds.

According to PO3 Geoffrey Gutual of the Cebu City Police Office Homicide Section, an argument suddenly ensued between the suspect, Joseph Morata, and one Randy Amores along the road at around 4 p.m. yesterday.

This then allegedly prompted Morata to shoot Amores but failed to hit the latter when Amores quickly ducked for cover.

Zabala, who was vending “binignit” (tropical fruits and root crops stewed in coconut cream), was hit in her butt, while Osiones, who was sitting near her, was hit in the right arm.

Police were not able to locate both Amores and the suspect who fled the area immediately.

Gutual said that they could not yet ascertain if the suspect and Amores belong to a gang. — Niña G. Sumacot/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
