Two face charges for attacking tanod, nephew

CEBU, Philippines - Two people are facing criminal complaints before the Cebu Provincial Prosecutor’s Office for attacking a barangay tanod and the latter’s nephew in Tuburan last month.

Tuburan police chief Timmar Alam filed the complaint for direct assault to an agent of a person in authority against Manuel Pasok and Julito Balmes, both residents of barangay Bagasawe, Tuburan after they allegedly connived each other in assaulting barangay tanod Fernando Medequillo.

Medequillo said that past 11pm on July 30, his nephew Rolando Mondejar went to him and asked his assistance regarding his problem with his wife.

Medequillo said he advised his nephew to talk to his wife and settle their misunderstanding by themselves. He then accompanied him home and stayed at Mondejar’s house for a while.

However, when he was about to leave, the reportedly suspects came and without any provocation, Balmes allegedly hacked his nephew. The other suspect, Pasok, also faced him and tried to hack him with an axe several times.

Medequillo said he was fortunate to have parried all the attempts but his nephew was seriously injured on the head. Medequillo, however, suffered injury on his right knee after it was hit by the back of the axe.

Medequillo said it was only after the other tanods and police arrived that the suspects stopped the attack and fled. — Fred P. Languido/JMO   (THE FREEMAN)
