Low pressure area to bring more rains

-

CEBU, Philippines - A low pressure area was spotted at 430 kilometers east northeast of Virac, Catanduanes yesterday and is expected to usher in more rains, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration.

PAGASA – Mactan chief Oscar Tabada said there is a possibility that the low pressure area will develop into a tropical storm. If ever, it will be the 12th storm to hit the country this year. Tabada said it will carry the code name “Labuyo”.

Tabada said that the period from July to September is considered as the peak of the Southwest monsoon, which brings heavy rains.

As of 5pm yesterday, PAGASA said the country will experience light to moderate winds from the west and southwest, which is expected to prevail over Visayas and Mindanao.

Residents in the city, especially those living in landslide-prone areas, are advised to be always cautious during these times. Downtown Cebu once again experienced flooding yesterday when heavy rains poured early yesterday afternoon. — Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
