GMA given Cebu City's world record certification

-

CEBU, Philippines - President Gloria Arroyo was presented with the certificate of the Guinness World Records for the largest dance class which was held in Cebu City.

A seven-minute video presentation of footage taken during the actual dance performance held last June 27 at the Cebu City Sports Center was shown and was followed by a live presentation by the Cebu City Dancesport Team and the kids they trained at the Malacañang sa Sugbo.

The certificate was presented to Arroyo by Miguel Osmeña, son of Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña, and Dancesport chairman Edward Jayco. The mayor failed to attend the event due to some prior commitments.

The city’s Dancesport team, now on its 10th year, is a multi-awarded team that has won more than 450 gold medals in competitions both here and abroad.

In a national competition, the team got 25 of the 27 gold medals. During the USA championship in 2006, they reaped nearly 70 medals and recently bagged 74 gold medals in the same country.

The team continues to harvest more honors by making the country proud as they won the gold medal in the Dancesport Southeast Asian Games, the first gold medal for the country in 40 years since the international Children’s Games in Bangkok.

Meanwhile, during the same event, Arroyo also inducted the new set of officers of the National Executive Council of the Barangay Councilor’s League of the Philippines headed by its newly-elected president Julio Jaime of Parañaque City. —Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/BRP   (THE FREEMAN)
